On trend
When it comes to colours and fittings, Ben Bloy from Chesters Plumbing and Bathroom offers an insight into what we can expect in the year ahead
What can we expect to see in bathrooms in 2017? We are seeing subtle colour used to make the bathroom a creative and individual space. The new range of Moode vanities allows you to select different tops and finishes to personalise your bathroom. Coupling this with some of the stunning new colours available in tapware can make your bathroom an extremely functional yet stylish room.
A lot of the high-end manufacturers are using colour with their tapware to complement the bathroom. Whilst black and white tapware has been around for a while, we’re seeing gold, bright nickel, rose gold and brushed stainless steel being used to make your bathroom a creative space.
Don’t be tempted to use too many bold colours: keep the space organic and use candles and towels to dress the bathroom and make it your own.
What advice do you have for those looking to include this trend of metal finishes? Embrace it – it’s stunning. Hansgrohe has released an amazing range of colours in their Axor tapware range, including polished rose gold or, for something more industrial, stainless steel optic. The copper range of Buddy tapware from Plumbline is quite industrial and, paired with a woodgrain vanity, is hard to go past.
What about basins? The different ranges of basins that we’re seeing now are incredible. The traditional round and oval shapes are still popular, but you can now mix these up with colours and many different materials. These materials include the new Apaiser Stone Composite Basins or the Truro Copper Vessel Basin from Robertson Bathware. We’ve just put on display the Rombo Vessel Basin, which has an incredible rumble finish.
If you’re running with an oval basin, think about having an oval freestanding bath, as the shape of the bath is often complemented by that of the basin.
Has the traditional white-on-white colour scheme in the bathroom come to an end? Absolutely not. In fact, we are seeing black and white used extensively, especially with tapware. Our suppliers are now giving us products that include black chrome and white chrome. White-on-white will continue to reign supreme in the bathroom.
Something different
While the new Chesters showroom (pictured above) offers all the traditional looks and styles, they have embraced some items that are different; showcasing ways that they can create the complete bathroom package, across various budgets, to ensure you have a creative and functional space. One of the most exciting displays is a working area designed to help clients see the way different shower roses work.
The showroom also includes different pods, each one designed by a different showroom consultant. The brief was simple: design your perfect bathroom. This includes the tiles, the lighting and of course the fixtures and fittings. What they have ended up with are four incredible displays – each different and well worth a look if you’re seeking inspiration.
