Immaculate conception

More than three decades on, Advanced Joinery owner Greg Ayers’ passion still runs high when it comes to crafting award-winning joinery solutions for Canterbury homes.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BESPOKE JOINERY?
Bespoke joinery can elevate a home, giving it the ultimate luxe factor, while providing exceptional functionality. From kitchen cabinetry to bathroom vanities, walk-in wardrobes to wall-hung entertainment units, cleverly designed storage can be integrated into interiors, using a limitless choice of unique materials and achieving a seamless finish.

WHAT IS THE GREATEST MISCONCEPTION YOU FACE AS A CUSTOM JOINER?
That bespoke, handcrafted joinery is an unaffordable luxury. Many people mistakenly assume custom-made solutions are prohibitively expensive; but that’s not the case at all. In the grand scheme of things, investing a little bit extra is well worth the outcome.

WHAT SETS ADVANCED JOINERY APART?
We have built a solid reputation amongst designers, architects and our loyal clients over the years, for our industry knowledge of trends and products, combined with our immaculate attention to detail, and for consistently exceeding expectations. Members of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association NZ (NKBA), we are also certified by the Master Joiners Association to uphold the compliance standard (NZS: 4211) for all timber joinery on windows and doors, ensuring structural integrity for improved performance and longevity.

WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?
We offer clients the complete package: design, manufacture and installation of quality joinery to suit all styles and budgets. And, while we are well-equipped to undertake individual projects such as kitchen renovations, our speciality is providing joinery solutions for the whole home. This way, the style and materials chosen from the outset will create a harmonious look throughout.
To ensure the clients’ vision is achieved and their timelines and budgets are carefully managed, our qualified joiners, experienced in-house designers and project managers work in closely, and collaborate with external designers and architects, and, of course, the clients.

Homeowner Q&A

Design brief
A contemporary, yet classic kitchen that was in keeping with the overall style of our home, incorporating a separate or hidden preparation area, complete with premium quality materials and fittings. Full height cabinetry and backlit shelving was a must, as were quality integrated appliances for a seamless aesthetic.

Favourite aspect?
First and foremost, the functional design. I love the hidden workspace and the premium European appliances that make using the kitchen such a pleasure. And the large island, which provides a focal point, where we gather to read the paper over breakfast or entertain guests.

Why Advanced Joinery?
We had used Advanced Joinery in the past and were thrilled with their impeccable workmanship and transparent process.

The experience
We thoroughly enjoyed the process, and the result Advanced Joinery achieved surpassed all expectations. Their professional in-house designer, Kathryn Watson, listened carefully to all our ideas and encapsulated them within Sheppard & Rout Architecture’s magnificent design, which translated beautifully in the final outcome.
