A Christchurch homeowner who chose to install central heating as part of a largescale renovation of a character house, says the heating is one of their favourite things about their home.
“We chose central heating as we wanted effective ambient heating that we could use to heat the entire home. Also, because it’s a large house, we wanted to be able to isolate certain rooms. The house already had radiator central heating, and we were going to upgrade to a new gas boiler. Central Heating New Zealand showed us that the difference in cost to replace all the radiators with the new energy efficient ones was nominal for the benefit we would get from a new system versus the existing, which was 20 years old. We replaced all the radiators and all the piping under the house and had some of the radiators powder coated to match wall colours.”

“We have spent almost two years renovating, and the central heating is our favourite part of the project. For optimum comfort, our bodies prefer radiant heat that is evenly distributed throughout a home. Warm water radiators or underfloor heating provide exactly this, which is why customers describe the feeling of central heating as luxuriously warm and enveloping.
As shown above, the temperature of surfaces in your home is as important as air temperature. Without warm surfaces such as walls, ceilings and floors, blown air from air heat pumps cannot achieve the same comfort levels as radiant heat from underfloor or radiator central heating.
Centrally heated homes can be achieved in a number of ways, fuelled by either gas or diesel boilers, or there is the option of air-to-water and geothermal heat pumps. Systems can be retrofitted into older homes or installed into a brand new home.
