We talk to Chantelle Chalmers of Canterbury Aluminium about how a simple upgrade can improve the energy efficiency of your home

How do I know if I need new joinery? If your current wooden joinery is rotten, or the timber is warped, then it is time to upgrade! Excessive condensation and draughts, and worn tracks are other indicators.

What are the benefits?  Changing the configuration and design of the joinery allows you to achieve a warmer and drier home with greater security and lower energy bills. Added to the performance benefits, retrofitting new aluminium joinery is a great way to enhance and improve the aesthetic of your home.

What is the process?  Here at Canterbury Aluminium we provide a free measure and quote, after which, if you want to proceed, we get one of our in-house builders to visit you on-site and work through the finer details. Once we have manufactured the items, our builder will replace your old windows and doors with your new aluminium joinery.

What on-going maintenance is required with aluminium joinery? That’s the beauty of it: there is very little. The most you need to do is wipe down the joinery and sliding tracks 2-3 times a year.

THERMALLY BROKEN WINDOWS
On a cold New Zealand winter’s day, coming home to a cosy, warm and dry home is the best feeling. Which is why so many people choose thermally broken aluminium frames when renovating or building new.
Thermal break technology ensures the aluminium is more robust and can withstand the most extreme weather conditions. The black polyamide strip running through the middle of the aluminium profile prevents any transfer of heat.
Thermally broken frames are strong but still flexible, meaning they can hold large glass panels. By adding Argon Gas and Low E to your glass, you will improve the comfort level of your home considerably. Low E works by reflecting heat back into the house, thus reducing the need to continually heat your home.
The contemporary, square, flat finish of thermally broken frames means the design will suit all homes and styles. The thermal suite can be used in conjunction with the other window and door suites without a change in the visual appearance.
