Destination home
With Christmas just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to stop in at Housekeepers Design in Oamaru – a destination for all things homewares and clothing, wrapped up in one of the town’s most gorgeous historic buildings.
From the wide range of products, to the different brands available, owner Sally-Ann Donnelly says that she and her team always receive comments from customers about how much they love the uniqueness of her carefully curated store.
“We like to support local, so most of the products we stock are New Zealand made or from New Zealand-based companies. Some of the more well-known homeware brands include La Chumba, Città Design, Ned Collections, and Le Forge, with beautiful bed linen from Society of Wanderers and George Street Linen. We are also constantly getting new products from clothing brands such as Taylor, Maaike and Jimmy D,” says Sally-Ann.
The store is well prepared for the Christmas rush, and the team already has a few ideas on what will be its most popular items for those looking for gifts – including the Huski beer and wine coolers, ideal for hot summer days, along with the Porter Green silicone glasses, which come in a range of gorgeous colours (and are also sustainable).
The Ashley & Co products are always in demand, but especially so during the festive season, and for those looking for a new Christmas day outfit, Assembly Label has some great basics, perfect for the summer months. And when it comes to trends to watch out for, Sally-Ann says that eco-friendly products are a winner right now.
“We love that sustainability is a key buying factor for so many people. Because it definitely is for us. Bright and exciting colours, such as pinks, blues and yellows, are also very much in fashion and you can see them right throughout the store, from clothing to bed linens.”
And while there is plenty to choose from in store for everyone on your Christmas list, Sally-Ann does have one piece of advice – perhaps for those who tend to do their shopping last minute – and that is to get in sooner rather than later.
“We do get very busy, and while we have done our best to stock up, popular items will go out the door quickly.” Visit the store at 18 Harbour Street, Oamaru.
