Flooring
Alastair Murcott of Floorpride Mandeville Street outlines the appeal of natural materials.
What are the recent trends in flooring?
We are seeing a clear trend in our industry: there’s a growing preference for natural, sustainable materials, especially in the premium market. Timber and laminate flooring options are gaining in popularity due to their authentic aesthetic and durability. There’s also a resurgence in wool carpets as consumers become increasingly eco-conscious.
Why are these so popular?
We have always had a passion for New Zealand wool carpets, not only for their luxurious feel and quality but also because the industry supports local farmers and contributes positively to the economy. Wool is a natural, renewable resource that safely and easily breaks down at the end of its life. We’re noticing that more clients are opting for these high-spec, sustainable products in both new builds and home renovations.
What are some good examples?
There can be a little extra cost in using these products, so they’re more commonly selected for higher-spec installations. We are installing these products every week as a high-quality investment in beautiful new and existing homes. Currently, we are installing Quick-Step engineered oak timber flooring throughout 20 new apartments in Ferrymead and Godfrey Hirst laminate flooring into an ongoing project of 220 sustainably built new homes in Rolleston.
