Seeing is believing
Abode's kitchen design expert, Nicky Claridge of NC Design, talks to us about the increasing demand for the warmth and beauty of timber in the kitchen. Thanks to some new products on the market, achieving this look has never been more accessible or more affordable.
Tones that reflect nature, are very much on-trend and gaining popularity all the time. Given this enthusiasm for all things timber, it’s fantastic to see a favourite kitchen panel supplier of mine, Prime Panels, releasing the brand new Timberland finish. This finish can be used on any melamine colour but is especially appealing on their twenty-three beautiful woodgrain designs. The product features a textured and realistic timber structure that gives a visual and sensory experience that’s as close to real timber as I’ve ever seen before on melamine. It's so authentic-looking that it's fooling some of New Zealand's top joinery professionals, who can't believe that it isn't real timber. In my opinion, this new Timberland finish is a real game changer when it comes to achieving that high-end timber veneer kitchen look without the price tag.
The natural oaks are still popular, but there is definitely growing demand for the richer, warmer, darker timber tones such as Black Forest Oak and Charred Walnut. But don’t worry you lovers of ‘Scandi’, Prime Panels has you covered with colours such as Nordic Ash and Nordic Pine.
Alongside the trend for natural finishes and surfaces, is the desire for a more streamlined look. Handleless is the new ‘handle’ and Dezignatek, a sister company to Prime Panels, is leading the charge with the recent release of their latest offer of a 45 degree ‘bevelled-edge’ for melamine. Using the best available technology, Dezignatek can offer a crisp 1mm laser edge for your melamine drawers, doors and panels – without an obvious glue line. This new edge detail by Dezignatek makes creating that beautiful, seamless look simple and is the perfect solution for a stylish, functional kitchen.
As a designer, I’m always excited by the advances in technology and materials available to enhance my designs and the overall experience for my clients. These new products from Prime Panels tick all the right boxes for me and are well worth considering for your new kitchen.
