Danish design store BoConcept has a reputation for timeless, quality design. Christchurch showroom manager Maika Grant shares some of the customisable options from the dining collection.

Since its inception in 1950s Denmark, BoConcept has been known for creating high quality, modular furniture for the home and office with customisable features and finishes for a personalised design.

The dining settings available are no exception, with a selection of over 120 upholstery fabrics and leathers to choose from. BoConcept has a clear focus on classic Danish design that’s built to last.

“Current textile trends are addressed with rich, luxurious velvets and bouclés in jewel tones,” says Maika.

The Kingston and Alicante dining tables featured here have a contemporary feel with luxurious walnut and glamorous ceramic tabletops.

The Kingston dining table features soft curves for a relaxed style that appeals to customers ready to invest in furniture that will last. The built-in extension leaf is neatly hidden underneath the tabletop. Maika says, “All of our tables are extendable. The butterfly leaf extension mechanism featured on the very first BoConcept dining table. The handle opens up like butterfly wings and can be extended easily with one hand.”

“The Kingston is a really simple mid-century style updated in white and grey, walnut and dark oak,” says Maika. “The walnut table is made from the top one per cent of American walnut. The veneer has been treated for direct sun to offer the most protection you can for uneven fading. It’s a linear veneer made from a single piece of wood sliced thinly down the length of the trunk. This means no cracking or warping. It will stay straight for a lifetime.”

The stylish Princeton dining chair has been ergonomically designed. It’s guaranteed to bring comfort – even through the longest dining sessions. The variety of fabrics available means that the Princeton can be made to suit a range of budgets.

For a premium experience, Maika recommends the elegant Alicante table. There’s the option of having a ceramic tabletop or taking the ceramic right through to the pedestal base for added luxury.

BoConcept tables can be easily extended with just one hand.

“Full body ceramic goes all the way through the surface, so it’s the same colour throughout the material. As it’s fully sealed with a coating, it’s also more durable than natural stone,” says Maika.

The ceramic Alicante tabletop is child and dinner party proof. The smooth surface means that food, red wine, and coffee spills can wipe off up to 42 hours later. The hardwearing tabletop can take up to 200 degrees Celsius on top straight from the oven to the table, and it won’t scratch or mark.

Plinth or centre-based tables, like the Alicante, are great for accommodating more people. The fact that you can see past the base to the rest of the room in a large space gives them a light, airy feel with extra legroom for the taller family members.

As well as being available in three textural stone ceramic finishes and a smooth marble look, the Alicante is also available in a white lacquer and white glass tabletop.

The Vienna chair distinctively combines creased lines, soft organic shapes and emphasised edges to ensure stylish comfort. The sloping form of the armrest follows the shape of your arm and allows you to place the chair close to the table. The Vienna comes with a swivel base or four-leg option in the full range of upholstery fabrics and leathers.
